Cultivating Friendships

Farmers around here mostly use what is known as “Roundup Corn,” which is a genetically-modified corn that is impervious to Roundup—in otherwords, you can spray the corn and it won’t die, but the weeds surely will! Makes it real easy to grow the stuff with a minimum of weeds—the fields sure look nice, too!

Well, since we don’t care to put chemicals on our food or ground (can’t do anything about the neighbor’s overspray, though!), we cultivate our sweet corn patch by hand and hoe, and the field corn by tractor and cultivator:

It's not as pretty or clean as using Roundup, but there is a certain satisfaction that comes from farming this way…
