Spent

Yesterday was occupied with quite a bit of physical labor. Tyler and I transferred the rest of our hay down to the old hay barn, which we have begun using to feed the horse and goats, as it has a nice setup where you can fork hay from the top level hay mow down into feed bunks below. This works well, and the animals don't waste nearly so much hay as the way we had been feeding them previously. I like the fact we're using the building the way it was originally intended, too.

Once we were done with that, the boys worked on a movie project while I picked up all the hay pallets, cleaned and stacked them for the next season, and raked and loaded all the loose remaining hay into the pickup truck. I also cleaned up the small machine shed, leaving the dirt floor in both barns neat and raked out. Tyler pitched the loose hay into the chicken coop - the chickens eat the alfalfa leaf, and the rest makes a good bedding.

Following a break for lunch, I got out my tools, and worked on installing the remaining siding on the dormer windows up on the roof (with numerous trips up and down the ladders!). I also installed clamps to hold the lightning rod cables in place. Other than gutters and some caulk around the dormer windows, I can say the roofing project is now about completed.

I was completely spent by the end of the day - tired, but a good kind of tired.

Precious Treasure

Chad has started pre-production on a new short film called Precious Treasure, and is looking for some help. Have a look at the opportunities and get in touch if you're interested.

Wonderful Whacky Weather

Had one of the wildest storms we've yet seen here on the prairie blow through recently. Wind velocities were not that bad (40-45), but it just seemed to whip around from every direction at once. It was hard even walking across the barnyard to do chores.

The next night, we got about 5-6" of snow, which actually settled pretty good (the wind had died down). They're calling for temps in the 50s tomorrow, and then back to frigid and more snow later in the week.

This is normally March weather, folks!

Healing Hands

The following photos show healing of my hand after getting it caught in a New Idea No. 300 Corn Picker on November 10, 2007.
