The Archives - July 2010

We're just a family following Christ, living in a ~90 year-old house out on the prairie (and yes, we do have peach trees), rearing a couple of Godly sons and all the while trying to not make the locals laugh too much at our attempts at farming. Poke around all you want and feel free to drop us a line anytime.

July 4 - Independence Day

June 20, 2010 - Last Day of Spring

Well, what a Spring it has been.

The Middle West continues to be hit with heavy rains several times a week, leaving us with soggy fields and a constant trickle through our cellar. Tornadoes have done a lot of damage to towns not too far away from us, but thankfully we've had no damage, despite the strong storms that keep pounding us.

I'm very thankful I am not doing hay this year, and instead have "loaned" out our field to a Christian brother to grow soybeans. He's providing us with the hay we'll need for our livestock this coming winter.

Major Life Events

The biggest change we're still dealing with is the sudden loss of my Mom to a heart attack on May 8. We're thankful my brother Jim and his wife were there with her when it happened, but it's also been especially rough on them because they were there. We spent two weeks in Georgia handling the funeral and disposing of Mom's effects. It was all such a blur...

Mom was a believer, and because of God's grace and her faith in Christ, she worships Him by sight now - we rejoice in this! It is the hope we as followers of Christ have.

Mom was caring for my 100 year old (as of this writing) grandmother, "Granny." My uncle and his wife have taken Granny into their home to care for her the rest of her days, which is an answer to prayer.

As a sort of memorial, here are a few of my favorite photos of Mom, along with a couple of me and my brothers at the two different houses we lived at in the Athens, GA area while growing up. The funeral program we worked up can be viewed here (PDF).

Miss 'ya, Mom, but look forward to seeing you again!

Mom, probably in her mid-late 50s.

For some reason, this 1960s photo tickled my fancy!
Mom probably made the dress herself.

Mom & Granny

Camelot! The same family who bought the house from us still lives here.
I was in 4th through 11th grades while living here. My Senior year was in South Carolina, and I then moved in with Granny and Grandpa when I started college at Georgia Tech.

The farmhouse at Winder. Not as many happy memories here (for me, anyway - I never really lived here, having already started college when Dad and Mom divorced). Once again, the same family who bought the house from Mom still lives here.
