The Archives - December 2010

We're just a family following Christ, living in a ~95 year-old house out on the prairie (and yes, we do have peach trees), rearing a couple of Godly sons and all the while trying to not make the locals laugh too much at our attempts at farming. Poke around all you want and feel free to drop us a line anytime.

Of Legal Drinking Age

Chad just turned 21, and to celebrate, we all had an ale together (ginger ale, that is!). It's cliché to say it, but it's hard to believe our firstborn is twenty one.

Winter, Arrived

We had a dusting of snow about a week ago, but it's here for real now - started snowing steadily yesterday afternoon (on Chad's birthday), and we now have around 3" down and it's still falling. Early winter snows are usually very nice here as the winds are typically gentle, so it falls and settles just like "movie snow." Nice.

Brasstown Bald

It's the tallest mountain in Georgia, and it's our family tradition to drive up in the fall and climb this one. There's a beautiful view of God's creation from the visitor's center!

Come On In, Park Anywhere

One of the big summer projects around here was the installation of a concrete driveway pad next to the house (large enough to eventually build a two-car garage). It took many nights of digging with the tractor, then with pick and spade, followed by 25 cubic yards of concrete to pour the driveway pad and a sidewalk from the house to the barn, plus about 65 tons of gravel to spread on both driveways. Glad to have that all done, and hopefully we'll have a mud-free driveway come spring!

Bug Repair

Tyler and I have been occasionally working on the 1963 Volkswagen we bought back in the summer. VWs are somewhat know for their tendency to rust out the floor pans and wheel well areas, and this car was no exception. Thankfully, a previous owner had already repaired most of these areas, leaving us with three spots to cut out and weld in repair panels. Once we get that work done, it will be time to remove the body from chassis and send it to be sandblasted before painting.

Ya'll drop us a line when you can, now!
