March Ain’t Done With Us Yet

We got about 4" of wet snow Saturday night, which was mostly melted away by Sunday afternoon.

March Showers Bring Floods

In late Winter and early Spring, the ground is still frozen under the topsoil layer, and any rain we get tends to run off rather than soaking in. The result when we get a heavy, prolonged rain is this:

Spoon River

That's the Mighty Spoon River, and for about a week, we've had to drive the long way around to go to work or town.

The other result is that you really, really shouldn't try driving a vehicle out in the hay field until it has time to dry out a bit.

February 22

I'm writing this update on a sunny Sunday afternoon, looking out across our little prairie farm which is covered with patchy snow and deep drifts in places. While January presented us with bitterly cold temperatures (-25° on one particularly cold night), February has been somewhat more temperate and undecided. We've been as high as +60° and as low as Nothing°. We got this last batch of snow Friday evening, with more predicted in a few days. I think we're all quite ready for spring!

Not much really to report otherwise. Some progress is being made on our new kitchen, as well as repairs and general cleanup and straightening here and there. Really just marking time until it's warm enough to get outside again.

Ya'll drop us a line when you can, now!
