Where We Reside

Now that the Dining Room ceiling is up, I’ve shifted back to my last major house project for the summer—residing. All the old siding has been stripped off; there were two layers—the original wood lap siding and the aluminum siding that’s been on the house since maybe the 1970s?

The haphazard manner in which our house was built (starting with two rooms and being added to over the years) presented itself once again. There was no sheathing under the siding on the south wall of the Music Room, and the studs for that wall were flush with the sheathing for the rest of the south face of the house (not how it’s supposed to be).

So the new plywood you see in the photo is covering that up, and I’ll actually have to sheath the whole rest of the south face just so everything is at the same level for when I install the new siding.

I’ve already got the foam board up on the west face of the house, but before I can proceed with the south face the sheathing will have to go up as mentioned, plus I’m planning to wrap the porch and porch roof around the south face at least to where the cellar door is, possibly all the way to the south-west corner.

Lots to do. Stay tuned!
