Heading West: Day 3 – From Presidents to Cowboys

Our travels started today with a drive-by of the Mt. Rushmore monument. Both of us felt that, while majestic, it was “smaller” than what we expected. We continued on, making a stop at Jewel Cave (tours were fully booked, so we didn’t get to go into the cave) and then on through some beautiful scenery on our way to Cody, Wyoming.

Remnants of a burned-out forest.

Not far into Wyoming, we pulled off and drove a ways down a gravel road until it ended at an old collapsed bridge over a small mountain stream. We got our camp chairs out and spent some time reading scripture, praying and singing hymns together. It was a blessed time in the Lord!

The West side of the mountains… Recognize these formations from the movie Cars?
