Heading Northeast: Day 8—Seattle to Canada, Eh?

We enjoyed another delicious meal with the Hollands this morning (Ed did the cooking!), and after reluctantly repacking the van, headed out toward the border…

Before crossing over into Canada, we stopped in Lynden, WA and went through a museum and some quaint shops – the windmill is actually a hotel in which you can stay in one of the upper rooms. We might have to come back and try that sometime!

Our border crossing went smoothly (other than having to surrender our last apple to the border agent), and from there we quickly came to a mountainous area where we ascended almost a mile in elevation to cross the peaks.

Arriving safely in Merritt, we met my online vintage truck friend and got to know he and his wife better over Chinese. Merritt is a smallish town (larger than Toulon, though!) and appears to have logging as the principle industry. It’s set in a beautiful valley in the middle of the mountains.
