Heading Southeast: Day 9—Merritt B.C. to Naples, ID

Merritt (British Columbia) is a smallish town which is primarily supported by logging. We learned from our friends that the area is technically considered desert as they receive around 10″ of rain annually.

I came to know Mike through an online forum for vintage International trucks that I found after purchasing my 1950 International L-170 grain truck a while back. My truck had several rare dealer accessories on it, including a cab-mounted sun visor. Mike had asked on the forum if anyone would loan him one from which he and his son could make reproductions, so I offered to ship mine up for him to use as a pattern. The photo shows both the pattern they made as well as the first prototype reproduction part (before final cleanup and paint).

We enjoyed meeting Mike and his family (as well as “Dozer” and “Pebbles” – can you guess which is which? ).

We stopped at a park for lunch before heading back across the border. The mountainous scenery was breathtaking!
