Christmas Cards

cardsWe usually send out between 150 and 200 cards each year, mainly because we moved a lot early in our marriage and have a lot of folks we’ve stayed in touch with over the years.

Our 2012 Christmas Card can be viewed here as well.

Catching Up…

It’s been over a month since the last post, but not for a lack of things going on. No, it’s actually been quite a full calendar!

The month of November was memorably characterized by the strains of tunes from the musical Oliver! floating through the house, as Chad, Tyler and our sheep-ranching, music-teaching neighbor were all invited to play in the Williamsfield (Billtown) High School orchestra for their performance. For a town of just 600, they did a great job! The only issue is that we still have the lingering effects of so many catchy tunes being drilled into our heads for so long.

The Captain Of Thy Soul

      No Comments on The Captain Of Thy Soul

Art thou in truth?
Then what of him who bought thee with his blood?
Who plunged into devouring seas
And snatched thee from the flood?

Who bore for all our fallen race
What none but him could bear-
The God who died that man might live
And endless glory share?

Of what avail thy vaunted strength
Apart from his vast might?
Pray that his light may pierce the gloom
That thou mayest see aright.

Men are as bubbles on the wave,
As leaves upon the tree,
Thou, captain of thy soul! Forsooth,
Who gave that place to thee?

Free will is thine-free agency,
To wield for right or wrong;
But thou must answer unto him
To whom all souls belong.

Bend to the dust that “head unbowed,”
Small part of life’s great whole,
And see in him and him alone,
The captain of thy soul.

After the Battle

The tumult and the shouting dies;
The captains and the kings depart:
Still stands Thine ancient sacrifice,
An humble and a contrite heart.
Lord God of Host, be with us yet,
Lest we forget, Lest we forget.
