Stembridge Family Reunion 2000

We enjoyed getting together with a sizable bunch of Stembridge's over the July 4th weekend at my Aunt Sarah's house on Lake Sinclair in Milledgeville, GA. Beth, the boys and I flew down in the Cessna and landed at Baldwin Co. airport, which is about 5 miles from Sarah's house.

We spent the night at my Dad's house on the other side of the lake (the boys slept in Dad's sailboat!), and then drove back to Sarah's on Saturday for the reunion. Dad and I dropped everyone off at Sarah's and then went flying for a little while. It was my Dad's second light airplane trip in his life (that he could remember).

We flew over his house as well as several other places of interest. We determined that it was about 4 miles in a straight line from his house to the airport - it takes about 30 minutes to drive around the lake, though! We also looked at a grass landing strip owned by a friend of Dad's as a possibile landing point for the next trip down.

The rest of the day was spent eating, talking, catching up, eating, boat riding, playing, eating, and did I mention, eating? The last of the six brothers made it in during the afternoon, so we lined everyone up for the traditional family photo:

As the evening set in, we loaded the plane back up and flew home, making a quick stop to leave the boys with my Mom for a few days. It was really nice flying along at about 3000', watching the scenery go by. The flight was about 40 minutes, compared to the normal 2-1/2 hour drive time.
