These Middle West blizzards are funny – they’ll drop three feet of snow in the lowest depression (such as our driveway) or anywhere there’s a windbreak (such as my still-incomplete machine shed), and yet there’ll only be 2″ of snow in the flat areas such as the hay field.

I managed to get the 63 year-old Ford 8N cranked up at -14°F Monday morning and plowed enough snow out to get a car through before I had to stop to get warmed back up. I saw no snow plows all morning, and then in the afternoon, here comes the county motor grader with a huge V-plow, which means the roads were likely completely blocked somewhere nearby.

Sure enough, on my way home today (Wednesday), I went through two cuts where the snow was piled high on either side with only clearance for one car through the gap.

It’s supposed to warm up and rain on Friday.
